How to perform

Battle Rope Lateral Waves movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Hold both rope ends at hip height in an athletic half squat, rope slack removed.

  1. 1

Brace your core with arms nearly straight.

  2. 2

Sweep both hands to one side, then the other, in a controlled arc.

  3. 3

Rotate through the trunk to keep the waves travelling along the floor.

  4. 4

Continue at a fast, consistent rhythm.

Breathing: Exhale with each sweep and keep breathing rhythmically.

Coaching tips

  • Rotate from the trunk

  • Keep the rope low

  • Hips stay stable

Common mistakes

  • Twisting the knees instead of the trunk

  • Lifting the rope off the floor

  • Losing the half-squat stance

Safety notes

  • Keep the knees stable and rotate through the trunk and hips, not the knees.
