How to perform

Cable Side Bend movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Set a handle on the high pulley, stand side-on to the stack with feet hip-width and pull the handle down until your elbow is at your side and the handle is by your shoulder, free hand on your hip.

  1. 1

Lock the working arm in place so it doesn't pull.

  2. 2

Crunch sideways toward the stack, bringing your ribs down toward your hip.

  3. 3

Squeeze at the bottom for a moment.

  4. 4

Return slowly upright without letting the stack rest; complete the set, then switch sides.

Breathing: Exhale as you crunch down, inhale as you return.

Coaching tips

  • Ribs to hip

  • Arm stays fixed

  • Hips don't move

Common mistakes

  • Pulling the handle down with the arm

  • Leaning forward instead of straight sideways

  • Letting the stack touch down between reps

Safety notes

  • Keep the range comfortable and the tempo controlled.
