Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Stand tall with a slight forward lean, arms bent about 90 degrees, ready to jog forward.

  1. 1

Jog forward, lifting one knee and letting the lower leg reach out in front.

  2. 2

Claw the foot down and back so it strikes the ground under your hip.

  3. 3

As the leg finishes behind you, snap the heel up toward your glutes and bring the knee back through.

  4. 4

Alternate legs in a quick rhythm, punching the arms in a rapid 1-2 action.

Breathing: Breathe rhythmically with your stride.

Coaching tips

  • Paw the ground back

  • Heel to butt

  • Land under the hip

Common mistakes

  • Reaching and landing far in front of the body

  • Leaning back

  • Letting the arms swing across the body

Safety notes

  • Warm up with easy jogging first; the fast claw action loads the hamstrings.
