The everyday Indian lemonade, made with far less sugar than the street version. One lemon, a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch each of salt and black salt in a big glass of cold water is enough to be refreshing and to replace a little of the salt you lose in the heat. Drink it in the afternoon or whenever you would otherwise reach for a cold drink.

Ingredients
Method
- 1
Squeeze the lemon into a glass, picking out any seeds.
- 2
Add the sugar, salt and black salt and stir with 2 tbsp of the water until the sugar dissolves completely.
- 3
Top up with the rest of the chilled water and the ice, stir and drink.
Tips
- Dissolve the sugar in a little water first; it never dissolves properly in a full cold glass.
- Roll the lemon firmly on the counter before cutting to get more juice out of it.
Swaps
- Skip the sugar entirely and it is about 10 kcal; many people prefer it after a week.
Storage
Make fresh; it takes 3 minutes.
