Peeled orange segments blended with grated carrot, ginger, ground flaxseed and water. Because the whole segments go in, you keep the fibre that a juicer throws away, and the flaxseed adds omega-3 fats. It is a cheap winter drink when oranges are in season, good mid-morning or an hour before a workout.

Ingredients
Method
- 1
Peel the oranges, pull the segments apart and pick out any seeds. Pull off the thick white strands but do not worry about the thin membrane.
- 2
Add the segments, grated carrot, ginger, flaxseed and water to the blender jar. Blend on high for 60 seconds until smooth; the carrot should not be visible as flecks.
- 3
Add the ice, pulse twice and pour. Drink within 10 minutes; the pulp settles as it stands.
Tips
- Nagpur oranges in December and January are sweetest and cheapest.
- Strain if you dislike pulp, but you will lose about half the fibre.
Nutrition is estimated per serving from IFCT 2017 and USDA FoodData Central and rounded. Your ingredients and portions will differ a little.
