Manual Resistance Neck Isometric movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Sit or stand tall with your head in a neutral position. Place a hand on your forehead.

  1. 1

Gently press your forehead into your hand while your hand resists so the head does not move.

  2. 2

Build to a moderate effort and hold.

  3. 3

Relax, then repeat with the hand on the back of the head, then on each side.

  4. 4

Keep your head neutral throughout every hold.

Breathing: Breathe steadily during each hold; don't hold your breath.

Coaching tips

  • No movement, just pressure

  • Build effort gradually

  • Stay tall

Common mistakes

  • Pushing with maximal effort immediately

  • Letting the head tilt or rotate

  • Holding the breath

Safety notes

  • Use light-to-moderate pressure and ramp up slowly; stop if you feel sharp pain, dizziness or tingling.
